Joyce Lowrimore
Vice Chair

Joyce has served on BSRI’s Board of Directors since 2011. She feels the best part of being a BSRI Board Member is being able to reach out to seniors and inform them of the programs available at BSRI. She is inspired by the exponential growth of BSRI over the years, seeing 5 Senior Centers of Excellence come online and meals being prepared from our own sites.
After graduating from high school in 1969, Joyce married and traveled to England for a 3 ½ year stay as a military wife. During that time, she worked as a civil servant on RAF Lakenheath Air Force base working for the Army and then the Air Force Security Police Squadron. Years later, after starting her family, she returned to school and earned a BS degree in business with a concentration in accounting from UNCW. Over her career, Joyce has worked for several local businesses, including Brick Landing Plantation and Bald Head Management, as a general ledger accountant. More recently, she completed a class at UNC-C Senior Leadership Initiative 2011-2012 and felt that gave her wonderful tools that contribute to her service on BSRI’s board.
In her free time, Joyce enjoys her friends and family. She says she is their “go-to person” and she loves being there for them. She adds, “My family life is very important to me, especially building memories with my grandkids. Her family also includes her fur-baby, a black Cocker Spaniel named Samantha Ann. She was my late husband’s dog and now she is a Mama’s girl.” She also enjoys working with the seniors during the annual “Senior Games” events here in Brunswick County. But when all the work is done, and she wants to unwind, she likes to watch a movie or read a good book.
Joyce shares the best advice she was ever given was from my high school biology teacher, “All work and no play makes Joyce a dull girl.” She feels her greatest accomplishment has been raising her son to become a wonderful father, husband, and provider for his family.
Joyce says her philosophy on how to succeed is to “never give up.”
What would you do if you won the lottery tomorrow?
“I would make sure my son and his family were taken care of, and donate to my church and BSRI.”
