Due to the probability of severe weather in the Southeast during hurricane season (June-December) BSRI wants to remind you that planning and preparation for a disaster related emergency can be vital to survival. In addition to coastal storms, Brunswick County is susceptible to flooding and power outages, among other potential emergencies. Disasters can force residents to be restricted to or evacuated from their homes. Restoration of utilities and other important services, as well as re-opening road and business closures could take many hours or days. Please continue reading below for some Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) resources that can help you be more prepared and ready for natural disasters.
One of the best resources is FEMA’s free mobile app that provides weather warnings and alerts for users. It can also provide the location of any open shelters in the area. This app is free and is available at both the Google Play and Apple App Stores. You can find out more information by using this link www.fema.gov/mobile-app.
